Atlantic Coast World Series Game 1: Canes 10, South Charlotte Braves 1

The most notable thing about this game was something only a giant nerd would notice: the opposing team, the South Charlotte Braves, wore jerseys that read "Brave's". Yes, they had an apostrophe in them. Like I said, only a nerd would care...but that was ALL THIS NERD COULD SEE FOR FIVE INNINGS.

Oh, the game. The Canes won 10-1 in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule. The offense stormed out to a 7-0 lead and was never really threatened.

The tournament format calls for two more pool play games tomorrow morning, then bracket play beginning on Saturday.

Second inning
Asher singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Eli's double. Gavin doubled home Eli, then scored on Chace's shot past first.

Pitching Performances
Andrew was excellent in three shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Wes struck out the side in the fourth.

Gavin recorded two strikeouts in the fifth.

Dugout Wisdom
Drew lined a single to left in the fifth. "That's right field to Drew," Jake observed (Drew has a history of being creative with the names of various positions).

Game 1 Web Gems
  • With a runner on first in the third, Bryce charged in on a would-be single to right, came up throwing, and gunned the runner out at second to get the force.
  • Gavin and Chace teamed up on a perfectly executed pickoff play at first in the fifth.
