Zone Qualifier Championship: Canes 19, Dirtbags Black 4

After the scintillating semifinal comeback, the Canes had a quick turnaround before the championship game against a familiar opponent, Dirtbags Black. Under a rapidly warming sun, Evoshield made sure it ended quickly and took a 19-4 win in a game shortened to three innings.

The game was an offensive explosion, as every player on the roster reached base at least once. You can have your celebratory photo in either semi-formal team lineup style:

Or in partial team selfie style:

Pitching Performances
Chace struck out six in his two innings of work.

Asher finished it up with a perfect third.

Dugout wisdom
This is a conversation that actually occurred:

Coach Kevin I: "JT says that vegetables don't have a gender."

JT: "NO COACH KEVIN. What I said is that tomatoes aren't fruits or vegetables, so they don't have a gender."

You'll have to puzzle that out on your own, because I don't get it. Maybe this will help.

Championship Web Gems
  • With a runner on second in the second, Ben made a good play in the outfield by getting to a ball at the fence quickly, holding the runner to third base and limiting the hitter to just a single.
  • Jake sprinted in on a blooper to center in the third and made a great catch.
  • Coach Kevin climbed on the dugout roof to retrieve Drew's batting glove, which had been accidentally tossed there by Bryce.
