14U D1 Super NIT Game 3: Canes 6, CVA Nationals 14U 4

In what might have been the most satisfying game of the fall so far, the Canes battled for seven innings against a solid 14U D1 club, eventually emerging with a 6-4 victory over the CVA Nationals (Va.).

The win was made possible by hard-nosed play in every aspect of the game--pitching, offense, base running and defense. Drew and Chace combined to limit the Nats to just three base hits and surrendered just one walk, while getting 12 of the 21 outs in the game via strikeout.

The Canes offense, meanwhile, continued to hum, racking up nine hits and scoring in every offensive inning except for two. The homestanding Canes took a 3-1 lead in the first and never trailed.

Dugout wisdom
This is actually from yesterday, but I was in a bad mood and forgot about it. With the Canes at the plate, a teammate who shall remain anonymous decided he was going to work with Jake's flow. That teammate put in a lot of effort, which then led to Jake requesting a photo of the back of his hair so he could see how good it looked (he had been told it looked fabulous). The results are...well, I'm probably not qualified to reliably comment on hair styles:

Also, all the Canes were really glad they didn't break their sunglasses. That seemed to be happening a lot in this game.

Game 3 Web Gems
  • This wasn't a game about spectacular plays. Instead, it was a game where the Canes regularly made the routine plays and gave up very few free bases, all the way through seven innings.
