14U D1 Super NIT Game 2: Bandits 14U 10, Canes 9

In a very uncharacteristic game, the Canes built a 7-0 lead after two innings against Bandits 14U, but then watched them score ten unanswered runs. A late rally ended with the tying run on second base as the Bandits pulled out a 10-9 victory.

The Bandits were hitless through the first two innings, and the Canes actually outhit them, 10-6. But the Bandits took advantage of some control issues to bring their offense to life, ultimately earning nine free passes in a game shortened to just four innings by the time limit.

The effort and mental approach led to a quick postgame reminder from the coaching staff about the importance of being ready to play all the time. With the round-robin format, game times for tomorrow morning are already set for bright and early in Knightdale.

Ty threw and inning and a third of relief and worked out of a jam.

Asher used a good pickoff move to get an out without throwing a pitch.

Dugout wisdom
Nine of the ten Bandits players were wearing red pinstripe jerseys. The tenth was wearing a black t-shirt. "There's something different about this guy," Andrew said with a deadpan look as the tenth player hit. "I can't quite put my finger on it."

Game 2 Web Gems
  • Colin stayed down on a tough one-hop line drive to his backhand side and then made the throw to first to end the second.
  • Drew was heads-up and in the right place to cut off a throw from the outfield, then threw to Bryce, who relayed to Gavin for the out against an overaggressive runner after a base hit in the fourth.
