Battle for the Bats Game 2: Canes 13, Carolina Rage 4

The Canes finished the first day of big field play with a 2-0 record after winning a 13-4 game against the Carolina Rage. The combination of texts from Brian's Apprentice/Coach Eric and Gavin's quality bookkeeping allowed the blog to more or less reconstruct what happened. As Gavin put it, "If you can't play, doing the book isn't all bad." Welcome to life as an adult, Gavin.

Games begin again tomorrow for Breakfast in Knightdale at 8:30.

Game 2 Canes scoring plays
First inning
Jake singled and stole a pair of bases. Macon's fielder's choice scored him. Drew doubled and scored on a pair of passed balls.

Second inning
Colin walked and stole second. Andrew singled. Bryce drove in Colin. Andrew stole third and scored on Asher's chopper. Jake was safe on a fielder's choice, then stole two more bases. Macon's single scored him. A passed ball put Macon on second, where he moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a bad throw back to the pitcher.
Score after one and a half innings: Canes 7, Rage 0

Fourth inning
Asher beat out an infield hit. Jake singled. Macon reached on an error, with Asher scoring. A passed ball advanced both runners. Chace crushed a two-run triple and scored on a passed ball. Bennett blasted a double. Elias reached on a fielder's choice. Ty demolished a two-run double that ended the game because the ball entered orbit.
Score after three and a half innings: Canes 13, Rage 4

Pitching Performances
Drew started and went two good innings.

Ty relieved and went two more quality innings.

Dugout wisdom
Bennett took a pitch off the head and was eager to head to first. "Hold on a second," Coach Sean told him after dashing out to the batter's box. "You just got hit in the head." Coach Kevin II also hustled up to provide medical assistance. "What's this guy's name?" Coach Sean asked Bennett, pointing to Coach Kevin.

"That's Coach Adam," Bennett said.

Coach Kevin is no longer speaking to Bennett.

Game 2 Web Gems
  • Gavin made a sparkling play with the scorebook--I didn't actually see any of the above, but based on his bookkeeping, I'm just going to assume it's all correct.
