Battle for the Bats Game 1: Canes 12, War Hawks 3

The Canes won their first game on the big field, taking a 12-3 victory over the Holly Springs War Hawks in Knightdale.

Three pitchers combined to limit the War Hawks to just four hits, and the Canes offense took advantage of a couple of errors and eight walks and two hit batters to generate plenty of runs. The game was blown open by a ten-run second, and with Coach Sean batting all 12 players in the first tournament of the year, all 12 players had a TAB by midway through the second.

Gavin suffered a heel injury during the game. But don't worry, he didn't have to miss the postgame handshake line, thanks to Coach Kevin II:

The rare Saturday break between games meant the Canes had to find other ways to entertain themselves. While some took advantage of the nearby playground, Colin had loftier goals:

Dugout wisdom
The War Hawks pitcher started out with some control issues in the first three batters, walking a pair and hitting one with a pitch. "Guys, I think we're in trouble," Asher said. "He's throwing a no-hitter."

Midway through the game, a large flock of birds flew over the field. Colin proceeded to go into a lengthy explanation of why birds fly in a V formation. As his teammates looked at him with a mixture of confusion and admiration, he shrugged and said, "I know my geese."
