Super NIT Game 1: Canes 5, TPA-Adonna 14U 3

In the fastest game in 13U/14U baseball history, the Canes and TPA-Adonna somehow completed seven innings with at least ten minutes still left on the clock. And even better, the Canes got the win, earning a 5-3 victory in their first game playing up.

So, how did they do it so quickly? Good pitching played a big part, with three Canes pitching combining to allow just three hits. And of the 39 outs made by both teams in the game, 12 came on the first pitch. Also, the home plate umpire, the ever-friendly Mr. Tommy (who did a high school football game on Friday night that probably took about an hour and a half), was in a very big hurry.

Game 1 Canes scoring plays
Fourth inning
Drew led off with a double and stole third. Chace's long drive to center wasn't fielded and Drew scored. Chace stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Ty walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.
Score after four innings: Canes 3, TPA 1

Sixth inning
Drew lined a double. Chace singled and Drew scored, with Chace hustling in to second. Gavin powered a two-out RBI double.
Score after six innings: Canes 5, TPA 1

Pitching Performances
Ty started and threw three one-hit innings.

Andrew didn't walk a hitter in his two scoreless innings.

Bennett shut it down with two innings of relief.

Dugout wisdom
An elementary school-aged girl spent most of the first several innings trying to stretch a big purple blanket over a good portion of the bleachers behind the TPA dugout. When she finally made some progress, Colin looked on with admiration. "Look at that," he said. "She's got her own man cave."
