Day two of pool play began early Saturday morning at Rocky Mount High School. The Canes built a 7-1 lead on the Carolina Havoc and held on for an 8-6 victory.
It was a five-run third inning that stretched out the lead. In a pattern that would continue throughout the rest of the day, Canes pitchers had some trouble finding the strike zone, but the offense provided enough cushion to overcome it.

Dugout wisdom
Victor Ward became the new hero of the Canes simply by leaving his baseball card from the Rocky Mount JV team tacked to the bulletin board in the third base dugout. "Do it for Victor Ward!" became a team rallying cry.

- Eli covered a lot of ground--maybe almost a little too much ground--before hauling in a fly ball to center in the fifth.
