Cap Classic Game 4: Canes 15, Elkridge Hurricanes 0

In the very rare game ended after two innings by the run rule, the Canes finished pool play with a 15-0 victory over the Elkridge Hurricanes. On a sweltering day, the Canes sent 18 batters to the plate in the first inning, putting the game out of reach with an eight-hit, 12-run explosion in the first.

Saturday's amazing stat: in two games, the Canes hit .632 as a team. That's not normal, folks.

The victory locked up the top seed for tomorrow's bracket play, meaning the first game will be at 10 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. Hopefully no one will get too crazy in the Rocky Mount nightlife.

Pitching Performances
Macon started for the second straight game, and for the second straight game he threw a scoreless first.

Ty was the closer--as are most pitchers when they enter in the second--and threw a hitless inning.

Dugout Wisdom
The always-entertaining Ty had some hilarious comments about one particular opposing batter who chose to smack the plate and then point at the pitcher before taking his at-bat (Ty struck him out).

Game 4 Web Gems
  • Four of the six outs were made by strikeout, so it's hard to find too many defensive plays--but Colin did make a nice running catch in shallow right of a pop fly in the second.
